Stolen Paymaster Funds At Mexican National Railway Station
Eleven thousand dollars was stolen from the paymaster of the Mexican national railway in Mexico City Sunday night by the paymaster's servant. Samuel McDonell was hanged at Fort Wayne Indiana for the murder of Louis Laurent in March. He killed Laurent and burned the cabin in a bid to hide the crime. The execution followed a conviction based on circumstantial evidence. Governor Porter did not intervene. McDonell faced the scaffold with a stern demeanor and spoke nothing. The hanging resulted in a slow death after a seven foot drop and twelve minutes of strangulation. The night before he said he had no fault with the judge or jury.
