The Lincoln Journal notes Sittig tied to a deceased Democrat, creating the first paired entry of a dead legislator in history. Our exchanges report McEvoy visiting McCook last Friday and Mrs Wilcox with son Frank in town over Sunday. Citizens unite to purge gamblers and confidence men from McCook. About fifty one candidates seek Mr Babcock’s receivership of the U S Land Office there. many will be left out, but Babcock and Laws may be best for the job.
Bob Minor Dr Way and Larry Flanagan depart for McCook this week. Minor plans a long visit to Chicago and New York City, with a likely rich legacy awaiting him. Way will go to Col. and Flanagan may stay or return if no business arises in McCook.
J. E. Gochran and R. S. Cooley, noted McCook land men, were in Culbertson today. Train No. 39 lost its engine near town Tuesday, another engine was telegraphed and arrived shortly after.
Notice from the Village Clerk of McCook Nebraska dated April 20 1885 states that on April 16 1885 W M Lewis and Jerome Lewis filed a petition with the Board of Trustees seeking a license to sell malt and vinous spirituous liquors within the village corporate limits.
Local merchants E M Brickey and Co advertise a wide range of furnishing goods including suits pants shirts hats and jeans with a promise of quality fit and low prices. The notice highlights their Spring line and agents connection to an eastern tailoring house at Main Ave McCook.
Notice announces John Calkins seeks final proof to support his claim in Nebraska land. Before the McCook Registrar on May 23 1885 he will prove residence and cultivation with witnesses Franklin Laverick William Thorp Wallace Dunham and Eugene Dunham.
LAnp Orvice announces that Benavill Booth will prove up a homestead entry in McCook Nebraska on May 18 1885 before the register. The land lies in sections 24 10 and 4 township 1 range 29 and 24 with interested witnesses from Stoughton Nebraska listed as to residence and cultivation.
Notices show Elizabeth Pollock widow of Joseph Pollock seeks final proof for Homestead 2002 in sections 14 and 23 Township 1 North Range 24 West with witnesses Allington Strowbridge Dolph Kendall of Danbury Nebraska. Also Wilbur F Saunders seeks proof for land in sections 19 and 2 Township 1 North Range 28 West with witnesses Boyer Hammond Miller Sellers of Stoughton Nebraska. Third entry lists William F P Hamilton for lots 1 2 and 4 section 4 Township 4 North Range 20 West with witnesses Spaulding Long Campbell Moore of Box Elder Nebraska.
Land Office at McCook Nebraska March 25 1885 announces that a named settler has fled and will prove residence and cultivation before the Register on May 11 1845 at McCook Nebraska. Witnesses listed are E J Harman George Lichlitner E W Van Horn and J T Rivett all of McCook.
Multiple land claim notices record settlers filing proofs of residence and cultivation for parcels in sections 32 18 33 and 1 with ranges 20 west 3 west and 23 west. Witness lists include Gideon Cobbs Johnny Ford James Gregrey Amos Goodlyberger Benjamin McQuay Daniel Shaw William McQuay James Davis and others in Nebraska towns. Notices dated March April 1885 announce final proofs before the register or receiver on May dates.
