The following young men have enlisted within our three newspapers' territory in defense of democracy and peace. Maurice Glenn, H Epwanrus Ambulance Corps Driver Ft. Logan Denver Col. Brunsville Corporal Carlyle Kennedy Company K. Liorp M Porr Company K.
Numerous residents and visitors are noted in Orange City and nearby areas with movements to LeMars Sioux City Merrill and Winnebago. Persons mentioned include Hubert DeJong John Schaller Wim Duven Gladys Elskamp Katherine Beckering Vivian Kooi and Mae Daven.
George VanPeursem aged 74, a Holland immigrant who arrived in 1871, is renewing his subscription. A pioneering farmer and church supporter, he helped develop Sioux County and now owns substantial land. He and his wife have four sons and a daughter. one son ministers in Holland MI.
The notice calls on every male resident aged between sone and thirty to register on Tuesday June 5 1917 under the new conscription law. It states sickness rain or bad roads do not excuse registration and penalties include jail for nonregistration or misstatement of age or domestic responsibility.
Visitors and residents attended events in Orange City and Doon. Ben Kots visited Orange City as did Henry and Mrs DeJong for John War Wyk’s wedding. A Doon visit, Pipestone business calling, and local thankfulness for cleaner streets were noted.
Property owners must clean alleys and streets adjoining their property by June Sth. If not done the town will perform the cleanup and charge the cost to the property. P. VanPeursem, St. Comm.
The Grammar Room and High School room planned a Friday picnic near Lake Fitzpatrick farm but rain forced them back to the schoolhouse where they finished. The Primary and Intermediate rooms also held their picnic there with sad pansali prepared for the children.
Mr. Fanning from Parker Mrs. McDonald of Struble and Miss Kate Lynch of Sioux City attended the funeral of Mrs. Dan Buckley on Tuesday.
Cablegram from consul in Tiflis describes refugees in dire need due to hunger and exhaustion. Thousands are old, ill, or widowed with dependent children. about 40 000 orphans are cited. The New York committee is urged to renew efforts and forward gifts quickly to reach victims within a week. Contributions listed include 146.00 and 4.90 among others, with several signees signing as committee members and pastors.
The Sioux County Sunday School Convention met at First Reformed Church Mawhcetowa from Monday 7:30 p m to Tuesday evening. State Field Secretary Myr Walter Hutton spoke on The call to service and Rev A Haver Kamp discussed The relation of the Sabbath School to the Church. Miss C Bouma led devotional and Rev W Heady spoke on Introducing the child to Christ.
Positive outlook for the new year follows a convention led by Walter Hutton Field Secretary. The official praised for his leadership and the gathering is expected to yield lasting goodwill and notable results.
