At a recent board meeting the Farmers Elevator Co. reported handling 880 200 bushels of grain and 500 tons of coal along with large quantities of flour feed and salt. The nine month total suggests the 300 000 bushel annual goal will be surpassed, highlighting strong profits and town upbuilding.
The Maurice sale committee plans a public auction on Saturday March 16 to raise funds for the Red Cross and local needs. Items offered include livestock, crops, household goods, a large hand made flag, and various donations from district No. 7 Center Township. A calf sale with a $25 prize to the last high bidder is featured, with cash and goods contributed by residents to support soldiers and relief efforts.

Mrs L F Woodward called to Wenster City for her father s illness. Mr Woodward took her to Alton and visited friends in Stour City.
Mrs Henry De Jong visited her sister in Sioux City last Thursday. Mr De Jong and daughter joined Sunday with the family and returned home Sunday night Mrs De Jong accompanying welly Oogel was a Sioux City visitor.
A Wednesday afternoon meeting at the Town Hall in Maurice considered establishing an Ar CoOperative Implement Business. G Van Zyl spoke, John Linnan chaired, D Vander Berg secretary. Subscriptions reached at least 5000 with aim to incorporate at 25000, shares set at 5000. Committee named to solicit stock. 46 shares subscribed in open meeting. Next session scheduled for Friday March 22 at 1 30 p.m. at the Town Hall.
Several young men at Orange City were examined this week. Nick Rodenbour, John Hibma, Jake Mieras, Emil Vander Hamm, and Henry Niemastsverdriet passed the required examination and are likely to be among the 800,000 to be drafted for rent draft duties.
John Brink and Henry Brink were in the city on Monday, spotted by local residents. The visit drew attention from businesses and neighbors, with no incidents reported.
A after school mishap left Tila Mieras with a 22 caliber revolver firing a bullet into his head area. Friends removed four cartridges, the shot lodged near the wrist, and he was taken to Orange City for X rays and treatment by Dr. Pegel. He is recovering well from a scary wartime style mishap.
