Maurice Times declares G A Tyler publisher entered as second class matter August 4 1911 at Maurice Iowa post office under the act of March 3 1879.

The Maurice community learns Fred De Jong will fill the pulpit at the American Reformed Church next Sunday in the morning and evening services. Pyt. Wm. McDonald, recently discharged from the 35th Artillery at Ft Howard, Md, is home. locals praise returning soldiers and their service.
Sergt. Fred Buckley has been discharged and arrived home this week. He hails from Aguiny California and led army trucks with about 30 men under his command. He was making good progress and would have likely seen active service in France next spring if the war had continued.
Local reports indicate Jake H. Hon was in town this week for a community event. Residents welcomed his appearance and noted his involvement with nearby organizations.
C C Smith was on the sick list for a few days this week. Zilda Heusinkveld came home from 5 D where she has been teaching school and will return after the holidays. Pyt Benj Van Roekel is home on furlough and Pvt Van Roekel is stationed at Camp Dodge likely to be discharged soon. Gi AL Tyler will preach at Hall Sunday in the American Reformed church, Hall becoming a familiar spot for him. Hull is described as a prosperous and progressive town.
Pvt John Koot arrived home on furlough for a few days. Everyone is glad to see him, and Mr and Mrs Geo Van Pearsem hosted a party Thursday night. He looks fit and bears the ear marks of a good soldier.
Reverend A Sehut of Carmel died Tuesday after a period of ill health. He had suffered fever for about two weeks before his death. He leaves a wife and two small children.
A family led by Mr Vander Berg seeks a new residence after vacating the house where he had lived. The situation focuses on securing storage and settling belongings as they plan their next steps.

An annual Farm Bureau meeting is scheduled for Friday December 27 at 1 30 pm. Attendees are urged to attend. Mr Johnson, leader of the Federal Road Men who have worked at the County Engineers office, reportedly left last week for Ames.

C Vande Steeg plans travel to Mankato Minnesota to spend Christmas Day at his wife’s parents home. Mrs Vande Steeg returned home last week due to her mother Elise Carlsen’s illness. Miss Elise Carlsen, County Home Demonstrator, left for St Ansgar to celebrate the holidays. Dorothy Tye Deputy Superintendent also went to Pleasanton. Local youths from S A T C return home for holidays and resume college work after the break.
Frank and Joe Smadee of Sioux City arrived in Maurice Tuesday to spend Christmas with sister Mrs G A Tyler and father Mr Smades the local shoe repairer. J C Emery post commander of Luntz Post 216 G A R attended the annual officers election noting only two Civil War veterans present. Officers will be installed at the January meeting in a joint ceremony with Waters Stall.

Former Times foreman Luke Warnises fired at his band during Christmas. The gun’s safety failed and it discharged unexpectedly though no one was seriously hurt. Several jack rabbits were noted as rejoicing post incident.
Wir and Mrs. Peter Van Peursem hosted relatives on Christmas. John Vaden Brink and family visited from Orange City along with local relatives. Pvt. Chester Van Peursem is remembered with the boys of the navy at San Francisco.
John Slothhouber and his wife arrived in Maurice from Holland and will occupy the Peter Van Pearsem house south of Henry Waratjes. They were married in Holland and left for the United States, where Mrs Slothhouber suffered an influenza attack on arrival in New York.
Miss Margaret De Booy returned home from Cedar Falls where she had attended the Iowa State Teachers College. Miss Marcia De Bey Vernon Fisher and Mariain Van Oosterbout came home from esse City to spend the holidays.
Mr John Berkes proprietor of Purefood Grocery Store is down with the flu. Harberts and John Kreeze-Rather also sick leaving the shop short handed and prompting concern over potential serious consequences for the store’s operations.
The A. T. C. boys from Morningside beat the High School boys in the opening game while the Alumnae girls defeated the High School girls. Both teams repeated victories Saturday against the Academy team, spreading school spirit in Orange City.
