War exhibit at Sioux City fair shows torpedoes and guns

A comprehensive display by the regular army and US establishments accompanies the 1917 Interstate Live Stock Fair in Sioux City September 17 to 22. The exhibit includes modern torpedoes and rapid fire guns with demonstrations of firing methods, artillery shells, and ship equipment, plus a game bird display and fruit canning demonstrations.

Le Mars Girl Murdered in West Le Mars

Alma Braun twelve years old set out to visit grandparents in Le Mars on Monday night and was brutally killed after resisting a violent assailant. Clothes torn, underskirt used to strangle her. Mrs. Henry Becker found the body and notified police. Public calls for swift, expert handling to bring the killer to justice.

A large crowd attended a farewell reception for Rev. and Mrs. G. D. B. Van Peursem and other missionaries at the First Reformed Church. Despite heavy rain, friends gathered to hear speeches and sing, bidding them Godspeed as they depart for mission work in Muscat Arabia.

Youth from Lake Gkabuti Receives Medical Care

Howard Weis, son of J. Weis, was brought from Lake Gkabuti by his aunt Mrs. VanderWicken and is now at a hotel under a doctor’s care. Weis played in an orchestra at the lake and recently signed again two weeks before his term ended. He is taking a medical course at the state university in his senior year.

Chicken Car and Farm Sales Near Maurice

On Wednesday August 26 a chicken car will visit the Northwestern galhead track with roosters hens and chicks for sale. A farm event at John Dinnuay’s home will feature guests including J Baven and Mr Misras who later visited the Johm Westra home 17 miles northwest of Maurice where a Titan tractor was sold.
