Tale of a Sleepy Guest at Maumoe City Church
A long fragment from Proser's Magazine recounts a July 1840 tour in Ticklebrook with a thunder shower and churchyard goings on. A sleeping newspaper traveler is disturbed by a goat charging into a pew as pillows and hymn books fly, followed by a comic chase through the church and inn. The narrator also relates a Kentucky anecdote of a widow whose pig thief is exposed in court by a blanket-clad defender named Joe Davis, delivering justice for the distressed family.

Tragic tale of Emmett and a doomed Irish love
Read like a period piece, the article recounts the young Irish Patriot Emmett condemned for treason and executed. It focuses on his noble conduct in trial, and the heartbreak of the woman who loved him, a daughter of a late Irish barrister, whose sorrow persists amid sympathy from society and her exile from home.
