The Decline of Tim Jenkins and the Specie Panic
Timothy Jenkins, a hopeful poet and ardent critic of bank notes, embarks on an Hoboken outing with Miss Angelina Tompkins as banks suspend specie payments. A day of misadventure unfolds as he cannot change currency, borrows a shilling, barters valuables, and endures ridicule from a ferryman and pie vendor, ending with worthless bank notes and vouchers in Hoboken and back.
