Toledo War Burned Out Hope for Maumee Port
A lengthy letter chronicles the decline of Port Lawrence and the rise of Toledo fueled by speculation. It condemns Toledo’s aims, contrasts Maumee and Perrysburg with Toledo, and argues the so-called progress was built on political maneuvers and artificial benefits rather than true growth. The author predicts the fever will subside and later comparisons will reveal the real advantages of each town.
