Richton Park approves sidewalk repair costs
Richton Park trustees approved a low $29,498.98 bid for sidewalk repair by M.Y.S. Inc., with Minder’s estimate $4,487.02 higher. Other bids ranged to $46,957. Motor fuel tax funds finance most work, mainly in Richton Hills, and the board eyed using unused funds to add a sidewalk on Sauk Trail. Trustees also accepted $6,110 for a portable defibrillator and monitorscope from Motorola, and $4,810 for a Duplex FM paramedic radio. An ordinance to join the Intergovernmental Risk Management agency aims to save $30,000 to $50,000 annually.

District 163 Teachers Hold Line in Stalemate Over Offer
Teachers in Park Forest Chicago Heights District 163 kept schools closed for a ninth day as they rejected a two year contract with a 20 percent wage rise. Union spokesman Carolyn Larsen said the board’s stance provokes determination to withhold a contract while federal mediation is resisted. Parents pressed for outside mediation at Forest Trail Junior High as district officials met with their attorney to explore other avenues to resolve the dispute.

Trustees stall on Louise Miller resignation in closed session
Rich township trustees met with Louise Miller after she resigned as director of township services and activities but again refused to accept the resignation. The two hour executive session delayed the regular meeting and followed a board action rejecting a federally funded center expansion project. The panel approved tax anticipation notes totaling 69 000 to cover operating shortages and heard notes on sewer repairs and local government advocacy. A public hearing on amending the 1980 81 budget is set for September 20.
