Matteson Joins Regional Major Crimes Task Force
Matteson will join a regional South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force to aid investigations for major crimes. Police Chief Lawrence Burnson says the intergovernmental agreement enables a large pool of investigators, with 5 to 50 possible responders depending on crime severity. Detective George Pfotenhauer will begin 176 hours of training in October from Northeast Metropolitan Training.

Safety signs to curb school traffic in Matteson
Matteson village board approved ten solar powered flashing school zone signs costing 40503 from Warning Sites of Illinois. The signs will be placed on two streets by five elementary schools including Matteson Elementary Zion Lutheran Sieden Prairie Woodgate and Mayra Yates funded from the capital improvements budget. The programmable signs operate 7 to 9 a.m. and during lunch and after school with battery backup for cloudy days.

Park Forest Scenic Run Draws Top Runners on Labor Day
The 21st Park Forest Scenic 10 mile and 5K drew 2000 elite U S runners on Labor Day. Rod DeHaven of Madison Wisconsin led the men with pressure on a Kenyan rival while Shelly Steely of Albuquerque New Mexico won the women’s national title. Ken Osborne, ex Park Forest resident, is seen post race stretching as Al Longtin of New Lenox cools off from a shower blast.

Pepsi Cola plant newest neighbor in University Park
University Park trustees approved a resolution enabling Pepsi Cola General Bottlers Inc to move into the Industrial Park in a $7.7 million project. The 120,000 square foot facility in TIF II will include a distribution warehouse and jobs for 60 to 70 workers with a minimum seven village residents within 24 months.
