Policed standoff ends with man subdued after hours

Police responded to a threat of self harm by a distraught man in Matteson. After hours of negotiations, Sgt Thomas Johnson entered the home, subduing the man as colleagues provided support and the father and minister aided outreach. He was transported for psychiatric treatment.

The Star corrects Oct 20 reporting on School District 159 Board candidate Victoria Prainito. Prainito, running for a two year term, works part time as a paralegal with McDermott and McDermott Ltd in Matteson and is not a lawyer. Her questionnaire listed mixed occupations and misspelled details, while stating she earned a paralegal certificate from John Marshall. In a separate item, Judith Lohr was incorrectly stated as unopposed for Rich Township District 227. Don Passmore opposes her. The Star apologizes for the errors.
