Freund a retired high school teacher now teaching part time at Prairie State College and Governors State University emphasizes cautious adoption of new programs. Wade, 39, a counselor at Illinois Mentor Inc, focuses on redistricting contract negotiations and improving education within a normal school day.

Fire destroys old coach house in Frankfort Township

Firefighters from 21 departments battled a blaze in the 8000 block of U S Route 30 in rural Frankfort Township. The fire began when embers from a resident's brush burning traveled about 75 feet to a woodpile beside the coach house. High winds spread embers, water had to be shuttled in due to no hydrants, and one minor injury occurred to the resident aiding containment.

Matteson plans TIF development for Commons district

Matteson officials study a plan to develop three motels on five acres within the 190 acre TIF area from Vollmer Road to 205th Street between Cicero Avenue and Interstate 57. Trustees praise the concept, noting it could spur offices and restaurants in Matteson Commons while plans remain preliminary and under village review. Jim Morgan of Transcontinental Properties declined comment.

DeAngelis to seek sixth Senate term in 40th District

Aldo DeAngelis a veteran state senator from Olympia Fields will announce a bid for reelection to the 40th Senate District at Villa Italia Banquets at 8 am with a press conference at 9 am. He says more equitable education funding and a third regional airport for Peotone are among goals if reelected.
