Matteson Board Okays Bullock Day Care Center Plan
Matteson officials approved a special use permit for Bullock Day Care Center at 3535 Lincoln Highway in a former Ungaro's Beauty Salon building. Angela Bullock plans a 645 square foot expansion, a fenced play area, ramp, and landscaping to serve ages two to twelve with up to 60 children. The center will offer before and after school care and must follow parking and traffic flow rules near the Old Matteson subdivision.

Richton Park eliminates landscape waste stickers
Richton Park voters will see a three year garbage contract with Green Waste Service that removes landscape waste stickers. The agreement runs February 1 2000 to January 31 2003 with Monday as landscape waste pickup day and annual spring curbside collections. Additional provisions include holiday service and unlimited items during the April May village wide collection. The board also approved an intergovernmental agreement with Cook County for environmental health inspections of retail food stores costing 40 dollars per year.

Citizens lead recenter search gains village support
The Richton Park Village Board unanimously recognizes the Community Action Council as a subcommittee of the Parks and Recreation Commission to study acquiring a community recreation facility. Homewood-Flossmoor High School Environmental Club and Governors State University graduate students hiked Irons Oaks woods in Olympia Fields to remove non-native trees. They cut European buckthorn and Tartarian honeysuckle to reclaim the one acre site along Butterfield Creek and prepare the piles for wood chip shredding.
