A public forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters chapters in Homewood Flossmoor and Park Forest will feature candidates for the Illinois House of Representatives 80th District. Democratic nominee John Ostenburg of Park Forest and Republican Flora Ciarlo of Steger will present platforms and field audience questions at Anita Stone Jewish Center in Flossmoor at 2 p.m. Call Marge Renick at 798-0434 for details or interpreter needs.
The Matteson Public Library will hold a morning book discussion at 10 15 a m at 801 S School Ave. The October selection is The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski, noted for its graphic content.
A moving narrative follows an abandoned child struggling to survive amid World War II upheaval in Eastern Europe. The group meets on the fourth Monday monthly from September through May. New members welcome. copies of the book are at the Circulation Desk. Information, 748-4431.
The Matinee Club plans a trip to Drury Lane South to see The McGuire Sisters led by Mary Purlee. Jewelry making with Terry Caltagirone at Shirley J. Green Community Center. Richton Park hosts a mini Halloween party for families with crafts and a costume parade. Also a Fright Night trip to Six Flags, Pace budget hearing, Farmers Market finale, and a children's party at Glaeser Park. Registration required for several events.
The Grace United Protestant Church of Park Forest hosts a holiday bazaar and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch runs 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds aid Rich Township Food Pantry Park Forest Nurses Comfort Fund and Access to Care.
The Governors State University College of Business and Public Administration hosts its Sixth Annual Silent Auction on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hall of Governors. Proceeds support the Student Advisory Board Endowed Scholarship Fund with gift certificates from local merchants and various items available.
The Thursday gathering at Anderson Oglesby Public Library in Markham hosts the Friends of the Indian Boundary Prairies with a p m meeting.
