Will County halts landfill bid process over new appointees
Will County will pause evaluating bids for a 455 acre Joliet Army Ammunition Plant landfill until four new members join the seven member committee. County Executive Charles Adelman will appoint reps from the Chamber of Commerce the Central Trades and Labor Council the Township Officials Association and the Governmental League along with three County Board members and four county employees. The committee will no longer have voting rights for the employees. A Monday committee meeting was canceled and not rescheduled until the new members are ready. Adelman said the revamped panel expands representation as it weighs four finalist bids or all nine original bids for the multiyear contract. The county expects up to 20 million in disposal and lease fees over 20 years and possibly over 200 million for the winning firm. Critics argue missteps by Adelman and the committee fueled residents’ concerns about process. New public meetings and released minutes are planned.
