Richton Park Village Board approved first readings on three ordinances to annex 111 acres known as West Highland, paving the way for 213 detached and 94 attached single family homes on the Richton Park University Park border south of Lakewood. Developer John Hryn plans brick exteriors with a mix of buyers, including older residents and young families.
South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association leaders join U S representatives Jesse Jackson Jr and Henry Hyde for a press conference in Oak Brook to back plans for a Peotone airport despite the FAA removing the project from federal funding eligibility. Mayors say the setback won’t derail the effort and emphasize potential jobs and economic growth.
Four incumbents Edwin Burnette Judith Lohr Jerry Pierson and Scott Umbrell seek re election to four four year seats in Rich Township High School District 227. Lohr 53 says she has served 22 years on the board and cites committee work referenda and planning as assets. Pierson 49 a state public service administrator was appointed in 1997 to fill an unexpired term. Burnette did not respond to the district questionnaire and could not be reached by phone.
Carrie Napoleon reports that Huth Middle School students in Matteson District 162 will benefit from a revised No 16 bus route. David Holm says the issue was resolved, but parents note most nearby pupils are picked up early and endure nearly 30 minutes of travel through Richton Park Olympia Fields and University Park before returning to the Matteson school.
Melvin Hoger, owner of 80 acres along Lincoln Highway, opposes including his land in a proposed Matteson Community Park. He warned plans label his property for sale and fears eminent domain. Officials say multiple sites are being considered and no arms twisting.
