Grant expands distance learning network in Illinois higher ed
The Illinois Board of Higher Education gave Governors State University and the South Metropolitan Regional Higher Education Consortium a 1.4577 million dollar grant to extend an electronic classroom network. The funds will connect campuses including College of St. Francis Joliet Junior College Kankakee Community College Lewis University Moraine Valley Community College Olivet Nazarene University Prairie State College South Suburban College and St. Xavier University enabling compressed video courses online discussions and exchange of college level content across sites.

Rich East social studies veteran Robert Dettbarn spent nearly two months in five summer study programs. He attended a National Endowment for the Humanities seminar at the University of Kansas on slavery era social institutions, Economics America study on using tech in teaching, and two conflict resolution seminars in Minnesota and Washington, DC. He also joined a three day Illinois conference on classroom computer technology and curriculum integration.
