Kindergarten star Leslie Applegate vies for Illinois Teacher of the Year

Hale Primary School teacher Leslie Applegate, a 22 year veteran, is among 13 finalists for the Illinois Teacher of the Year honor. The winner will receive a tuition waiver for state university and travel as an education ambassador, with final results announced Oct. 17 at a Chicago Holiday Inn dinner.
