Reading Writing Skills Challenge at Indiana Elementary School

Matte son Elementary School District 162 concentrates on improving reading in the 1998-99 year under Principal Joyce Carmine. Initiatives include integrating reading and writing across subjects, Accelerated Reader tests, parent involvement, read aloud sessions, cassette book listening, self evaluation tapes, Family Classics Book Club, Junior Great Books, and a goal of 1000 minutes of reading per quarter with Hall of Readers recognition.

Ameritech backs Illinois theatre with $1000 gift

Ameritech donates $1000 to the Illinois Theatre Center to honor John L. Hudzik for volunteer work. In Illinois the Ameritech Foundation awards 290000 in grants to 256 nonprofits this year through the Pioneer Program enabling employees to earn up to 1000 by volunteering eight hours monthly for six months.
