Village switches from quarterly to monthly billing, replaces meters, and outsources the system amid computer problems. Richton Park officials debated three proposed safety ordinances from Police Chief James VanSchepen. Richton Park Village Board approved a special use permit for Eric and Joyce Bryant to operate a home day care at 23061 Richton Square Road. The ordinance carries conditions including DCFS license, care for nine children, sign compliance, and updates if child count changes. Trustee Wilkins supported despite concerns about home day cares in residential areas, while Village President Banovich reiterated opposition.
Willie Moreno Jr., a Bloom High School junior who died in a pole vault accident in March 1997, inspired a National Kidney Foundation of Illinois campaign about organ donation. His mother Areli recalls their decision and hopes education will prompt others to donate, keeping his memory alive in others who need transplants.
