Dimensions feature discusses a foreign exchange program bringing Latin American students to the United States. The state track finals were contested Friday and yesterday in Charleston with several area squads aiming for top placements. Coverage continues in Sports on pages 13 and 19.
Governors State University will grant honorary doctorates to Philip M. Klutznick a former government official who served seven presidents and Elliot L Richardson a former Cabinet member in rites reported for Page 7.
Matteson prepares for its first Memorial day festival coordinated by the parks department and Jaycees with a 10 a.m. memorial service at Allemony memorial, a 34-unit parade, flag-raising by scouts, and a noon park program featuring a baking contest, logo poster winners, a ballet, two bands, games, and refreshments.
A Richton Park developer wins a court battle allowing smaller 1 060 square foot homes selling for 60 000 to 65 000 to meet market demand. Lakewood residents protest near their homes valued around 80 000 to 90 000 and fear property values will drop. Village officials say pre annexation PUD terms still bind the town though the court decision limits action.
Richton Park village board adopted an ordinance on business licenses and gave initial approval to zoning and clerk expense ordinances. Six resolutions thanking Village Fest workers were approved. one $25 monthly clerk payment was tabled. A $16,500 lift station pump bid by Standard Power Equipment was accepted.
Richton Park trustees selected Matteson Richton bank for the $450000 water bond issue at 7.863 percent over eight years, yielding a net interest cost of 235896.25 and lowering the projected 1984 tax levy to about 52000. Other bids from La Salle National and Columbian Securities stood higher. The board approved the bid and bond issuance ordinance and reviewed the amended budget for water projects funded by the bond proceeds.
All Star Publications will close its offices on Memorial Day Monday. Staff will observe a company holiday with operations paused for the national observance. Regular services resume the following business day.
