Area residents learn of a rockin schedule at The New World and the upcoming wave of dino mania. The item highlights two featured stories on the cover and teases more prehistoric excitement to come.
The Richton Park Fire Department showed its new 33 foot fire safety house trailer at the village neighborhood meeting. Fire Chief Michael Spain and Fire Marshal Joe Solick led tours with State Rep. Renee Kosel who helped secure a $30 000 grant in the 1999 state budget. The display also featured a $462 000 Quint fire engine and a state of the art ambulance. The trailer includes a stove refrigerator microwave bed and monitoring system to televise activities in each room and a non toxic smoke generator to simulate a smoke filled space for escape practice. Children in the Junior Firefighter Academy will walk through the trailer interact with firefighters and paramedics and learn how to exit safely through windows and doors.
Richton Park Village President Rudolph Banovich vows possible lawsuit against Frankfort over Wyncrest senior citizen development on a 200 acre site at Sauk Trail and Ridgeland Ave. Frankfort trustees tentatively approve the project while unincorporated Township land falls in long term planning area. Banovich seeks boundary talks with Rossi and other mayors. officials stress legal review continues and jurisdiction disputes linger between Frankfort Matteson and University Park.
Virginia Estates received village approval for a 75 unit subdivision in Matteson but will pause lots along a disputed 1500 foot cul de sac until a flood study is completed. The board touted a compromise to shorten the cul de sac while delaying phase two and addressing residents’ concerns since 1997.
The FAA may restart stalled plans for a third regional airport near Peotone Illinois as officials review a state proposal. Governor Ryan welcomes environmental review progress but IDOT has no immediate land purchases planned in Will County. Lawmakers set aside 75 million dollars for land purchases between Peotone and Beecher.
