Harriet Lustfeldt of Matteson was honored with the Sheriff’s Senior Medal of Honor Award for community service in Cook County. A former kindergarten teacher for 20 years, she mentors the sick and elderly, bakes cookies for holidays, serves as Matteson treasurer, and participates in the Matteson Historical Society. Award presented at a Chicago luncheon last week.

Naked man charged with possession of drugs
A 31 year old Worth man, Richard Demonbreum of 11250 Worth Ave, was charged by Richton Park police with felony possession of a controlled substance after allegedly concealing 120 pills of the depressants fibrium and zanex and about one gram of cocaine. He was denied entry to Sneakers Lounge, then reportedly undressed in a nearby wooded area before reappearing clothed as officers arrived. He faces court on May 27 at the 6th District Circuit Courthouse in Markham. The Matteson Parks and Recreation Department will stage its third annual Spring Showcase at 7 p.m. May 14 on the Huth Upper Grades Center stage.

Plea Pleases Mother of Murdered Sailor in Japan Case
A Michigan sailor Terry Helvey pleaded guilty in Japan to murder with intent in the October killing of shipmate Allen Schindler 22 of Chicago Heights. Helvey also admitted assaulting two Navy shore patrolmen and giving two false statements.
