Interstate 57 to be renamed Thurgood Marshall Memorial Freeway

Illinois House Transportation Committee endorsed a bill renaming Interstate 57 from Chicago to Cairo in memory of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. The 30 to 0 vote sends the measure to the full House with bipartisan backing from Rep Arthur Turner and supporters Robert Donaldson and Samuel Sax, who cited national precedents.

The Oak Lawn Park District announces its first Great American Kite Fly on April 1 from noon to 2 pm at Centennial. Subdivision loses ground in quest to shift border

A Greens of Olympia Fields group led by Bruce Peterson seeks to move residents from Rich Township District 227 to Homewood Flossmoor High. The Rich Township board voted unanimously March 12 to deny the detachment, citing potential loss of property tax revenue. Petition validity hinged on two-thirds of 122 signatures. 95 signatures were challenged for mismatches. Page A-2.
