Woman sues daughter wins large judgment over medical bills
Ruth Lamaster of Orland Park earned a 306000 verdict from a Will County jury after suing her daughter Laura Grice for medical costs and lost income from a July 1997 incident when a family dog knocked her down while babysitting grandchildren in Manhattan. Lamaster faced 31000 in medical bills and no insurance at the time. The attack led to surgery and physical therapy, and coverage disputes with Stwal Insurance Co. Lamaster said the settlement protects her relationship with her daughter, though Grice’s insurer may owe up to 500000 if the award is upheld.
