Only about a dozen expressed support for the paired schools concept as the board faces long term enrollment and overcrowding concerns.
Rich Township High School District 227 board heard a report on the science curriculum showing rising enrollment in science and mathematics. Science division chairs Pat Yarbrough and Lou Schmitt cited expanded coursework, counselor encouragement, staff support, and media pressure as factors driving the growth from 67 percent to 98 percent of students enrolled in mathematics and computers from 1974-75 to 1984-85, with science participation noted.
Youngsters from Trinity Lutheran Church in Matteson visited River Oaks Terrace in South Chicago Heights to sing a variety of songs for residents. The residents greeted the children warmly and expressed appreciation during another portion of the program.
Richton Park trustees move to seek bids for replacing the aging Millard Avenue water main on the east side of town. The project will replace a 40 year old six inch sandcast pipe with eight inch ductile iron pipe to curb frequent main breaks. Estimated cost is about 4,180 with 8-10 bidders expected and work slated for late March or early April.
