Hospital seeks more parking near St James in Chicago Heights

State residents living around St James hospital testified before the Chicago Heights zoning board Wednesday about parking shortages and urged approval of a rezoning to allow a 100-space lot between 14th and 15th streets and Vincennes avenue and Otto boulevard. The plan, tied to a $17 million wing under construction, would serve hospital staff and include landscaping and an alley-paved access, while neighbors doubted the space would meet needs. The hearing also covered a senior citizen complex proposed at 14th Street and Wentworth Avenue with a 144-room seven-story building financed by HUD funds, and will go to the plan commission for recommendation.
