Matteson considers $6.75 million incentive plan for Commons

Matteson village trustees will review a tentative plan to provide up to 6.75 million in incentives funded by a tax increment financing district for the Matteson Commons at Cicero Avenue and Vollmer Road. The plan envisions a 23 year TIF with 50 percent of future taxes diverted, while 50 percent go to taxing bodies. A maximum 5 million in pay as you go developer notes could be issued for future office projects.

Bus Fares Debate Draws Disabled Residents in Richton Park

About 40 disabled Rich Township residents and south suburban neighbors plan to attend a meeting Thursday at the Rich Township Senior Center to urge cheaper Pace bus fares. Pace service reps will discuss the fare hikes that raised a one way ride for those living beyond three quarters of a mile from a fixed route from 1.50 to 5.0 dollars. Ninth grade school plan rejected by Rich Township teachers

A Rich Township committee of teachers advised against creating a ninth grade only school for District 227. They cited disruption, loss of upperclass role models, and no proven improvement in student achievement. Principal Brian Barry led the study and endorsed the thumbs down.

Park Forestman seeks compensation for radiation exposure

Park Forest resident Gregory Maas asserts the government knowingly exposed him and fellow airmen to dangerous radiation in a 1960s Air Force cleanup. He plans to file an administrative claim in federal court Monday. Maas recalls a 1968 Greenland ice shelf mission, a B-52 crash, and operations Crested Ice, with health issues including organ removals and kidney stones.
