The Flossmoor Service League will sponsor its annual Suburban Stroll on Wednesday, showcasing five area homes in styles from classic contemporary to space age modern. Story and photos on page 21.
Dr Hugo Long of Chicago Heights will be guest of honor at a St James hospital event this August. He is recognized for 45 years of service to the hospital. Page 12.
Dedication ceremonies for the Olympia Fields Osteopathic Medical center were held at the new facility and at Olympia Fields Country Club. Story and photos appear on page 41.
Rich Township trustees voted to accept a $12,000 Area Agency on Aging grant to support six senior service programs including counseling, escort transport, home visits outreach, information and referral, chore help, and daily telephone reassurance. Funds and decisions on other agencies' revenue sharing were debated with several requests postponed or denied due to reduced revenue.
Registration is open for Richton Park residents for summer classes and events by the village park and recreation department. Mail-in registration through June 10 for programs, then open to all on a first come, first served basis. Nonresidents pay 25 percent more. brochures available at the village hall. wait lists by phone only.
Park Forest School District 163 heated Memorial Day observance issues at a board meeting. Superintendent Baker noted 63 percent of students were absent on the holiday and warned Illinois could lose 8800 if attendance counted. He cited letters to state officials and suggested aligning federal and state holidays.
Percy E. Wagner 84 longtime Flossmoor plan commission member and chairman will retire after the commission meets June 3. A Realtor builder developer and educator author Wagner shaped development in Flossmoor Chicago Heights Park Forest and Park Forest South. He and his brother purchased lots in 1922 building red brick homes and he built the Flossmoor Civic Center later housing Century 21 E. M Seay real estate Super Mart and other facilities. Wagner helped map village planning and zoning policies and contributed to churches and civic projects.
