High school students to help build experimental plane at SSC
South Suburban College professor Hank Holovinsky will guide juniors and seniors in five courses toward constructing a Glasair GlaStar kit aircraft at Lansing Municipal Airport. About 60 to 75 students are hoped to participate, with completion expected after a fall semester build. The project, funded by Education In Careers with about 25 thousand dollars, involves cross discipline work from blueprint reading to aviation and computer-aided design, and will be documented for a video on the EAA site.

Tollway budget law and new chair named in Springfield
Illinois lawmakers approved a law requiring the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority to submit its budget to the Legislature annually and gave it power to request suspension of drivers licenses for five or more toll violations. Gov. George H. Ryan named Art Philip chair on Aug 1, with Philip noted as the authority’s longest-serving board member and a Joliet Junior College faculty member. The legislation also advances higher education funding transparency and expands DNA and crime victim notification laws, among other measures.
