Dickett to leave SCOPE post after eight years
Longtime South Suburban schools lobbyist Ann Dickett will depart her role as legislative director for the South Cooperative Organization for Public Education after this fall’s session. She helped win over 10 million dollars for south Cook County districts and aims to see a successor continue advocacy for more state school funding and levy reforms.

Funding reforms fade as Illinois school support shifts
Three near-by districts faced funding fears this past year but broad reform has faded from lawmakers radar. Despite a modest 2.2 percent state aid increase and a 1997 tax package, advocates warn inequities persist. Districts 133 132 and 172 secured last-minute aid to avoid shutdowns while calling for a more equitable tax-and-funding system.
