Reform urged to cut Illinois property tax burden
Seward, executive director of the Chamber, cites heavy Illinois property taxes as driving business to nearby states and counties. A resolution argues the tax system is inefficient, shifting education and services funding to property taxes. It notes 932 school districts and Chicago educating 40 percent of Illinois youth, urging municipalities to back real estate tax reform. Doctor, a former South Holland trustee and businessman, supports changes.

Matteson Trail gains grant funding and annexation plan
The village of Matteson received a late spring grant from the Criminal Justice Authority to buy two ATVs with 10 percent paid by Matteson and 9 525 funded by the grant. The annexation keeps Rich Township ownership of the trail segment but brings it into Matteson for local police response. Since its July opening, graffiti and trash vandalism have occurred. police reports are currently nil. Matteson also inks a January agreement with the Department of Natural Resources to maintain the state owned one mile, with the 12 mile trail running through Park Forest, Matteson, Rich Township and Frankfort and shared ownership with the Forest Preserve District of Will County.

Village plots safety plan for parking lot and landscaping rules
Metra Jenson states willingness to screen a parking lot from residential property with a fence and notes a 20 foot landscape buffer required by village ordinance. Limas notes access to a public right of way is required for all lots, and suggests re platting and combining the landlocked parcel with the existing lot before construction. Corrao supports the plan as a safe use that fits current pedestrian access and traffic controls.
