Zone System Aimed at Cutting Fire Response Times
Waitekus explains the village’s zone system helps the 32 member volunteer department cut four to five minutes off response times. Firefighters, paid minimum wage, train for nearly a year including EMT and paramedic steps, with part of training at local hospitals. New Fire Chief Named In Country Club Hills
Acting Fire Chief Jack Scanlan, 49, a 9 year veteran, will become fire chief on August 1 with a one year contract through July 31, 1979 at $18,500. The appointment ends speculation that former chief Frank Daniels would return amid department friction. Daniels resigns after 21 years with 5 as chief. he began a 30 day leave June 5 and told the board of his intent to terminate service. The board cites Scanlan’s 19 years with the department and runs him as acting chief since June 5. Daniels built the department from scratch and improved EMS services for residents. Scanlan pledges to devote full effort as new fire chief. The Zion Lutheran church youth group outing to Great America is scheduled for July 23.
