The Illinois Department of Corrections downplays a hit list found at Stateville Prison that included Lawrence A. Rush, a guard killed July 1. Officials recovered two metal pipes and warn staff when named on a list. they say such lists are common and the link to the murder is remote. Thornwood plans to issue 3.6 million in bonds to rehab and purchase a 231-unit HUD owned apartment complex at 19440 and 19460 Glenwood Road. City will buy the property from HUD for about 1.5 million with 500 thousand in fees to NAREB. Closing set next Wednesday.
Four of seven Chicago Heights parks have had basketball hoops removed due to vandalism. Dawn Hogeveen, assistant parks superintendent, says the vandalism is outrageous and replacements are limited. Serena Hills residents ask why hoops were removed and a park board meeting is set for 7 30 p.m. Monday for direct inquiry.
The Chicago Heights Police Department released a list of 29 June arrests on drug related charges, part of a ongoing effort to publicize a war on drugs. Capt. Richard Stultz cited rising violence including a 62 year old man found with pot and a suspect attempting to stab an officer with a needle during a May incident.
