New charges filed in Lionberg-Schmal murder case
Cook County State's Attorney Jack O'Malley announced three new defendants in the Lionberg-Schmal murders after four men were released recently. Ira Johnson and Juan Rodrigues face new charges while a warrant was issued for Rodrigues. Johnson is held for a bond hearing after transfer from state prison. The case traces to 18 years of disputed convictions and DNA evidence prompting releases and calls for habeas reform.
