Potholes plague Chicago area roads as freeze thaw trips up patches
Extreme temperatures and heavy snowplow use have created a surge of potholes on southern Dan Ryan expressway and surrounding roads. IDOT began an emergency project to remove a 1%-inch surface layer between 85th and 99th streets while officials warn patching will be limited by ongoing snow removal and repeat freeze thaw.
