Tire incinerator plan aims to ease fears at Ford Heights

Chewton Glen Energy of San Antonio proposes a 10 acre tire burning plant in a Cottage Grove area industrial park with in house electricity and surplus sold. Ford Heights officials see potential revenues and jobs. EPA permit paused for a public hearing prompted by state representative Balthis. The plant would burn tires as fuel without coal, a practice used elsewhere with tires treated as recyclable.

Smoking ban sparks staff protests at Richton Park Village Hall

Richton Park ends 1992 with a smoke free Village Hall. Smokers must go outside and cannot smoke in village vehicles. Break or lunch outside only. Health options including fairs seminars and stop smoking clinics to be offered free to staff and at cost for spouses. Officials say aim is to protect non-smokers while accommodating workers.
