TIFs Sparking School Deals Across Suburban Districts
In 1996 eight area districts faced heavy tax increments with limited surplus funds but some towns including Tinley Park Homewood and Harvey offered concessions to ease school losses. District 153 in Homewood benefited from surplus TIF revenue while Matteson Richton Park and Richton Park District 227 formed incentives with Matteson and Richton Park schools to share revenue. District 205 and Crete-Monee noted TIFs’ mixed impact amid debates over policy and long term effects on finances.
