Matteson village trustees chose Slager and Schick Ltd to replace Star Disposal Service of Park Forest for garbage collection of about 3200 homes after April 1. The new bid at 4.65 dollars per dwelling per month undercuts Star Disposal’s 5.25 dollars. Village manager Dubruiel cited bid specs and savings while residents and some trustees voiced concern over Slager and Schick’s limited municipal experience.
Matteson residents will vote on 290000 general obligation bonds to build a new library and police station. Trustees approved placing both this year despite earlier debate over combining a library bond with an $800000 police bond and related renovations.
Incumbent Rich township Supervisor Dewey Helmick a Republican faces Democrat Marge Friedman of Park Forest in the April race to win a third term. Republicans picked Rich township Trustee Donald Van Horn to succeed Clerk Roy Pohndorff who retires after 13 years. Van Horn, a Park Forest resident, will finish a four year term as trustee after the election on April 2.
