The Elemen tary School District 159 board passed a resolution to certify a tax levy of 3 290 000 and filed it with the county clerk by December 31 during a Tuesday meeting A hearing followed. The board also discussed removing 200 000 in funds to offset an overpayment by commercial entities with no disclosed complainants and noted irregular accounting by the county assessor. The repayment plan would return overpaid taxes in equal portions.
Rich Township High School District 227 studies a plan to add a high ceiling 80 by 100 foot auxiliary gym and a 30 by 80 foot multipurpose facility at Rich South, plus expansion of wrestling and gymnastics areas. Financing from operating funds and life safety/funds, no referendum.
South Chicago area projects totaling nearly 7 million dollars were recommended for Build Illinois funding in 1986. Major items include 2 million for I-80 and Houbolt Road interchange access to Joliet Junior College and 1 million for Wolf Road in Mokena plus Ridge road Wentworth in Lansing.An airport feasibility study could have a larger impact than other projects.
Virtually all Build Illinois add-ons for the south and southwest suburbs were recommended for funding. Lt. Gov. George Ryan announced projects including $500,000 for a south suburban airport feasibility study, $750,000 for Park Forest industrial park storm sewers, and $200,000 for sewer construction west of Richton with total project costs around $506,000. Sponsors include Rep. Loleta Didrickson and Rep. Robert Regan.
Annette Shaw of Re Max Realty sues the village of Matteson in U S District Court challenging the nonsolicitation section of the fair housing ordinance. The action targets Trustee John Rangel and village coordinator Karen Gromala, alleging First Amendment and equal protection violations. The case moves to housing court in Markham after a 60 day continuance.
A Century 21 ad offering homes on an assumption basis to buyers with bad credit or no jobs draws community concern. The ad highlights no credit or employment verification, prompting warnings from housing officials about mortgage assumptions, FHA and VA limits, and potential buyer risk. Christine Klepper of South Suburban Housing Center cites dangers of unverified purchases and misused loans in Country Club Hills, Hazel Crest, and Park Forest.
