Former area man leads coast rescue group NMAL
Jakush, 27, a 1988 high school graduate from near Orland Park, heads Northeast Marine Animal Lifeline based in Maine. The not for profit group rescues and rehabilitates beached whales seals dolphins and porpoises, fielding over 100 distress calls this year. NMAL aims to build a Maine rehabilitation center and operates with mostly volunteers. The group collaborates with Allied Whale and relies on donations and a broad volunteer network to fund and run on site care and transport.

The Educational Foundation of Park Forest Chicago Heights, a philanthropic group, elected Thomas H. Houlihan as president and Welton Lacefield as vice president.
