Old Plank Road Trail extends to Joliet with new 4 mile span
The Forest Preserve District of Will County opened a 4 mile extension of the Old Plank Road Trail from Cedar Road in New Lenox to Park Road in Joliet. The 19.2 mile route now includes Western Avenue in Park Forest and Hickory Creek Junction in Mokena, with plans to finish a 1.5 mile segment in 2001 and potential access to Joliet streets after acquiring remaining rail line land. Bruce Hodgdon says the trail was quickly used once asphalt cooled and safety features are installed.
