Attorneys for Alfred Pilotto, aging Chicago Heights mob boss imprisoned since 1982 on labor racketeering, plan to ask a Miami judge next week to vacate his 20 year sentence and re sentence him to a lesser term making him eligible for immediate parole. Pilotto, nearly 80 and in ill health, was the lead figure in a 1981 RICO indictment and part of a $2 million union labor kickback scheme. The bid coincides with prosecutors pursuing Albert Tocco, as a jury weighs charges against him in Chicago. Pilotto’s lawyers argue testimony at sentencing misstated facts, while witnesses at the Tocco trial challenge who led the south suburbs rackets.
Jurors in Bloom Township hear closing arguments over 48 counts of racketeering extortion and tax fraud against Albert Tocco and Clarence Crockett. Prosecutors portray Tocco as a gangland boss backing violence while defense claims he is betrayed by criminals and warns jurors about witness credibility.
