Disaster Plan After Explosive Fire Aids Rescue Effort
The blast left a survivor pulled from rubble by fire crews and Stauffer staff, despite claims that protective asbestos gear was unnecessary. Police and firefighters were exposed to toxic vapors from EPN, prompting blood tests and hospital checks. City, St James Hospital coordinate future plans with ongoing training, while officials seek clearer chemical disclosures from companies.

Lab samples from 19 locations showed no bacteriological contamination. The boil order, issued as a precaution, followed an hours long loss of pressure and iron rust discoloration explained by flow changes.
