State draft proof required for Illinois jobs

Illinois job applicants born after 1959 must prove Selective Service registration to be eligible for state employment under a veterans bill signed by Gov. James R. Thompson. The measure takes effect January 1, joining other veteran incentives including increased homestead exemptions for disabled veterans and special license plates for retired service members. Se The law shifts to standard denial for those not registered, and expands scholarship eligibility and academic policy for veterans, with sponsors Sen. Roger Keats and Rep. Terry Park leading the effort.
