Plan aims to create Matteson downtown in five years
Community Development Director Ralph Coglianese says the interstate corridor urban design study is progressing toward a five year completion. A 6.5 acre village green is near final land swap details with a public hearing in 30 to 60 days. Plans include a tree lined center along 205th Street with a State Farm building as the first edifice and a new bridge over the interstate. A landscape mound would frame the 205th and interstice area as a centerpiece, while a private firm plans a nine to 10 acre lake and 30 acres around it for public access.

Most district trustees plan to run again this fall with indications of additional candidates. Prairie State College will gain at least one new member in November while Rich ton Park incumbent James Teykl will not seek another term. Filing for candidacy opens this week and runs until August 28 with some offices extending hours on the final day. District 159 lists eight candidates including four incumbents Al Travaglini George Gingras Leonard Brown and Henry Swan and four Matteson challengers Keith Osbourne Brenda Moore Alice Dearborn and Joseph Jarzabkowski. Four seats will be filled this year.
