Barry indicted in money scheme at Rich East High

Former Rich East High School principal Brian Barry was indicted by a Cook County grand jury on 11 counts of official misconduct, four counts of theft by deception, and one count of theft. The 48 year old from Park Forest allegedly sold school computers and stole funds totaling over 10,000 dollars, misappropriating about 20,000 over 11 years. He is slated to plead on September 8 at Markham courthouse.

Richton Park to approve passive park plan in Falcon Crest

Residents of the Falcon Crest subdivision push for a passive park east of Lawndale Avenue between Lee I and Jackson streets. The Recreation and Parks Commission, led by Kathy Damon, will recommend approval to the Village Board after Thursday input sessions at the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Plans include green space, play areas, interpretive paths, parking, and habitat features pending selection of path materials.

Richton Park backs tests on annexed Bohlman farm

Richton Park village officials approve two studies on the 115 acre Bohlman farm site to support planned development. The Testing Service Corp will run soil borings for 3330 dollars and the CAVE group will conduct an archeological study for 1475 dollars. Village Manager David Niemeyer said the staff wants to proceed immediately to keep development on track.

Beatrice Foster on Apple Hill Lane converted an 8-foot dirt berm left by a developer into a flourishing hillside garden. Matteson Library Receives $5000 Grant for African American Collections

The Matteson Public Library will use a $5000 cooperative collection management grant to expand African American materials for young adults and children. Richton Park and University Park libraries also applied for funds to add African American biographies and related audio-visual materials, said officials. The effort targets the growing African American population in the area.
