Antique Model T Race Reaches Seattle After 25 Day Cross Country

Palos Park shop owner Stolinski and Justice retiree Hobson lead 36 antique car enthusiasts into Seattle completing the 1984 New York to Seattle run. The event marks the 75th anniversary of this early auto promotion and traces the original six car route. The group, mostly 1909 to 1914 Fords, faced flats and long miles as they relive a historic journey.

Butterfield creek traverse reveals trouble spots inspectors show

About 20 public officials and engineers tramped through Olympia Fields last week during a two day Butterfield creek inspection. They identified flooding and erosion issues from Richton Park to forest preserve near Glenwood, noting debris, silt, and blocked flow along the creek and at rail viaducts. The study, funded by the U S Soil Conservation Service and Illinois Division of Water Resources, is a two and a half year effort led by a six community steering committee.

District 159 Sees Budget Edge Up for 1984-85

The District 159 board viewed a tentative 1984-85 budget totaling 15.65 million with a slight overall increase from last year’s 15.58 million. Teacher salaries rise to 2.25 million this year from 1.9 million due to an eight percent raise. superintendent salary grows to 59,000 and the assistant to 46,800. A public hearing is set for September 11 at Neil Armstrong School in Richton Park at 8 pm, with copies available at Marya Yates School from August 9 to September 11 between 9 am and 3 pm. The board also approved paying Meany Electrical Engineering 13,820 to fix exposed conduit on the Sieden Prairie roof after a safety review by architect John Fox.
