Woman earns honor for volunteerism in national award
An 18 year old University Park woman Lauren Franklin will receive the 1999 Tribute to Black Women Community Leaders student division award in Washington DC. The NCNW and Aunt Jemima Brands sponsored the honor with a $2,500 prize and travel expenses. Franklin has volunteered since age nine at the University Park Library and through groups such as Top Teens of America Key Club and Life Alternative Center.
